Clean Power for Reliability
Clean Operating & Backup Power
Clean power is the lifeblood of your voice and data systems. Utility power is not steady, but provides hundreds of surge and sag events monthly – which can damage equipment, accelerate failures, and cause operating problems like corrupted data and dropped phone calls.
A recent IBM survey tallied the average number of power line disturbances per month. Transients occurred 63 times, spikes 51 times, voltage fluctuations 14 times and outages 0.6 times. Just 1/240th of a second of interrupted computer or server power can corrupt, damage or destroy files- and require extensive (and expen$ive) data recovery. Several common power disturbances are shown below. Any deviation from the “Normal Supply” picture represents danger to your data, phone calls, and business continuity!

Properly specified Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) solve both transient & extended power problems by filtering and smoothing surges, providing clean (sine wave) operating power for your equipment, and serving as a backup power source when commercial power is unavailable.
UPSs are often critical in shut-down situations where an extended power outage is anticipated. UPS power provides the run time needed to safely finish transactions and close down critical information systems – such as your accounting database!
What should be protected? In addition to workstations and servers, network switches, routers, & firewalls should be considered. IP phones are normally powered by a network switch using Power Over Ethernet (POE).
UPSs can also be remotely monitored – to report power problems, use of battery power, aging batteries which may need replacement, or loads in excess of UPS’s safe rating. Remote monitoring can be very helpful when there are multiple locations, or when there is no one on staff keeping an eye on physical IT resources.

UPS monitoring can be linked to the SynerTel Managed Workplace, allowing SynerTel monitor on your behalf.
Not all UPS systems are designed to server and telephony standards. A small investment in power protection reaps huge long-term benefits in preventing business interruptions, data loss, and equipment damage.
